Theyyam

This is the picture of Kalichan Theyyam. In the Theyyam, worship of God, Goddess, mythological and local heroes and heroines and village deities who were thought to have supernatural powers. The month of Thulam in Kerala heralds the harvest, and with it, the spectacular and colourful Theyyam performances. The community comes together to celebrate nature and cattle, and to witness the dancer's communion with the divine.  

Ayilyam festival

The chief priestess of Mannarassala Nagaraja Temple in Alappuzha, Mannarasala Amma, leading a procession in connection with the "Ayilyam" which is the main festival of the temple. This famous temple is situated near Haripad, in Alappuzha District. As part of the festival, Special Ayilyam poojas were held. Nagakkalam, rituals under the leadership of temple karanavar and a procession led by the Amma carrying the Nagaraja "Thirumugham" and the "Nagaphanam" are the main parts of the festival.

Small Ural for Home


This is the small form of Ural which is fully made by stone. Earlier we had used big Ural (made by stone)& Ulakka(made by wood) for converting the rice and other commodities to powder form. Now this item is made by human, by carving the the stone and changed to this form of Ural. This is very useful in our home for crushing small quantiites.

This picture was taken by us while we were travelling in a house boat near Punnamada Kayal, Alappuzha. The greenary of paddy fields and water in the kayal were most attractive.Thousands of tourists visited Alappuzha every year and they used to travel in house boats to see the natural beauty at this place. The famous Nehru Trophy Boat race which is conducted every year before Onam festival , at Punnamada Kayal, alappuzha, is the another attraction at this place. Thousand of tourists and famous personalities in various sector are used to visit Alappuzha, exclusively for watching the Boat race.  

Petty Insects

There are various types of butterflies. Atlas Moth, Southern Birdwing, Kaisar-i-Hind, Malabar Tree Nymph, Common Bluebottle, Krishna Pea cock, Crimson Rose, Malabar Banded Swallow, Bhutan Glory, Blue Gem, Mormon Peacock Pancy are some among them. The name of butterfly shown in the picture is Southern Birdwing. Several major species of Butter flies have vanished as a result of the the flourishing illegal wild life trade in India and their disappearance is not taken seriously. But what people don't realise is that we're losing more than just pretty insects.

Rare Orphanage

Location- Northwest to the town of Kegelle and nestled in between the two major cities of Sri Lanka- colombo and Kandy.
This Orphanage was initiated by the Sri Lankan Government in 1975, and set on a 25-acre piece of land amidst natural setting beside the Maha Oya River. The Orphanage is originally founded to take care of the orphaned Elephants found in the wild, but today it has also becoming a captive breeding ground.It was initiated withfive orphaned baby elephants and today it maintains a strong herd of over 80 and could probably be the largest in the world.
