Location- Northwest to the town of Kegelle and nestled in between the two major cities of Sri Lanka- colombo and Kandy.
This Orphanage was initiated by the Sri Lankan Government in 1975, and set on a 25-acre piece of land amidst natural setting beside the Maha Oya River. The Orphanage is originally founded to take care of the orphaned Elephants found in the wild, but today it has also becoming a captive breeding ground.It was initiated withfive orphaned baby elephants and today it maintains a strong herd of over 80 and could probably be the largest in the world.
