Death Trap in forest

This is the rail track passing through forest area at Valayar on the Kerala Tamil Nadu border, now become a death trap for wild life, particularly Elephants. The frequent carnage on the track on the track in this area resulted in the death of 20 elephants in the last five years.

Variety of fruits

These pictures are taken from a fruits shop at the oppoiste side of the Coimbatore Railway Station. Different kinds of fruits are available there. When comared to the prices in Ernakulam, the prices seems to be low in coimbatore.

Taking rest on tree branch

A Leapourd who is taking rest on the branch of a tree at Trivandrum Zoo. The Zoo is situated in the heart of the city which attracts thousand of tourists. The main attraction of this Zoo is that the authorities are keeping the Zoo by creating a natural atmosphere by which animals like Lion, Deer etc. can move freely in the area earmarked for them.   

New clay pot bins for waste disposal

This is the Waste disposal system which we are using in our home. The first picture shows the three clay pot jars fixed as per the specification. The instruments put on the upper side are liquid for pouring inside the bin with the help of the sprayer. The other item is for helping us to mix  the waste with the lotion. The second picture shows that the waste put in the bin. This is very useful in a home. Finally the waste we put in the bin can be used as a manure for our plants after a period of three to five months. The item was supplied to us by CREDAI, Kochi, as part of their clean city movement, through our residence association, KATTITHAR ROAD PAURA SAMITHI, IN MARADU PANCHAYATH.

Octopus Paul II, successor to the tentacled tipster that wowed the world with his uncanny knack of correctly predicting World Cup football games, swims in his acquarium as he is presented to the media, at the Sea Life acquarium in Oberhausen, Western Germany.

Life ends on the road

This is the picture of a tortoise whose life ends on a road in Alappuzha District. The Tortoise while trying to cross the road on 6th November 2010, night, a vehicle run over the tortoise by crushing the strong shell and finally , ends life. Next day upto 10 AM, nobody who passes through the road didn't take any interest to remove the body of the tortoise from the middle portion of the road. On seeing the same we immediately removed the tortoise from the road and filled the body with mud collected from the road side.
 This kind of attitude of the people who passes through the road upto 10 AM, by not removing the body of the tortoise from the road, should be changed.

Festival of lights

Deepavali is popularly known as the festival of lights. Deepavali means a row of lamps. Lamps are lit during Deepavali to signify the triumph of good over evil. In north India is is spread over a period of five days. The celebrations begin late Ashwin and ends Karthika.According to the legend, this was time Rama returned to his kingdom Ayodhya after having defeated Ravana.

In South india, it is a one day festival and celebrates the victory of Krishna over Narakasura. The festival celebrated with light, fireworks, worship and sweets.

It is a rejoicing of the victory of light. But in all this celebration we often forget to think of one important

aspect. Pollution. Bursting firecrackers may seem fun, but consider the effect it has on the

enviornment.                                                                                                 

Theyyam

This is the picture of Kalichan Theyyam. In the Theyyam, worship of God, Goddess, mythological and local heroes and heroines and village deities who were thought to have supernatural powers. The month of Thulam in Kerala heralds the harvest, and with it, the spectacular and colourful Theyyam performances. The community comes together to celebrate nature and cattle, and to witness the dancer's communion with the divine.  

Ayilyam festival

The chief priestess of Mannarassala Nagaraja Temple in Alappuzha, Mannarasala Amma, leading a procession in connection with the "Ayilyam" which is the main festival of the temple. This famous temple is situated near Haripad, in Alappuzha District. As part of the festival, Special Ayilyam poojas were held. Nagakkalam, rituals under the leadership of temple karanavar and a procession led by the Amma carrying the Nagaraja "Thirumugham" and the "Nagaphanam" are the main parts of the festival.
